Our Bishops encourage us to read the Bible, learn about our origins and learn about our history.
The Catholic Church created the Holy Bible approximately 1900 years ago. The Bible is a library of compiled documents. The documents were inspired by the Holy Spirit over several centuries. There are messages in these documents that God wants us to receive.
However, the documents were never intended to be scientific works. Among other works, there are poems, novels and idiomatic expressions in the Bible. In addition it was written in ancient languages that do not always translate well into our modern languages. As discerning Christians it is important for us to know what to take literally and what not to take literally. To do this we must understand the historical context in which the Bible documents were written. That means study. Please see the following pages for study tools and other study opportunities.
